Website widget

Install, colour, domains, voice, language.

The widget is a chat window on your site. It is the channel most people turn on first.

Install

Go to Connect messaging channels and open the widget. Copy the one-line embed code and paste it into your site's template, before the closing body tag. On Shopify, the storefront gets it through the app.

Settings

  • Name. Shown at the top of the window.
  • Colour. Pick one of 16 colours. Customer messages and the send button take this colour.
  • Position. Bottom right or bottom left.
  • Domains. The sites where the widget may run. Anything else is refused.
  • Voice. On or off. When on, customers see Chat and Voice tabs. On the Answer bar, the round button is a mic until they type. One tap and they are talking.
  • Voice name. Marin or Cedar. Press Listen to hear each.
  • Customers speak. The language the assistant listens for on a call. A customer can still ask to switch during the call.
  • Widget or Answer bar. The widget sits in a corner of your site. The Answer bar sits along the bottom of the page: customers type in the bar, and answers open above it. You can put the bar on the left, in the centre, or on the right.

What customers see

A greeting, a text box, and the conversation. Replies come in as they are written. Product answers show a small card with the facts. Order answers show the order card.

Conversations

The widget remembers the conversation in the customer's browser, so they can come back to it. After seven quiet days a new conversation starts. The old one stays in your inbox.

Chat and voice share one conversation. A call becomes text in the same thread. If a call ends because a page opened, the customer taps Voice again and the assistant carries on from where it was.

Attachments

Customers can attach images and documents. The assistant can see images. Documents are stored for your team and are not read by the assistant.
